Summary:

The Commercial Portfolio Manager - Ensures that overall portfolio of relationships and transactions are in alignment with the risk profile of the bank in assigned territory. Responsible for maintaining acceptable levels of credit quality, consistent with the bank's credit policies, procedures, and guidelines including regular monthly, quarterly and annual portfolio tracking/reporting within established tolerances in Houston, TX market. Maintains a highly credible relationship between portfolio management and HNB's credit approval authorities. Develops robust portfolio analysis processes and data capture processes that manage risk and that generate valuable market insights to management and clients that help the bank and clients win. Accountable for identifying client needs (both credit and non-credit) within the portfolio and referring to middle market banking team for urgent execution to drive revenue growth. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Partnerships: Creates a positive and productive partnership with the middle market banking team.
  • Quality Assurance: Adheres to bank policies and procedures and complies with legal and regulatory requirements. Accountable for risk management, compliance and audit performance for area(s) of responsibility. Establishes or works with management to develop effective controls and processes to ensure risks are measured, monitored and controlled and compliance requirements are adhered to on an on-going basis. If applicable, ensures staff is properly trained, provided with appropriate resources and motivated to adhere to risk management principles. Maintains current knowledge of risk-related changes that may impact assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Administrative: develops work schedules; responsible for hiring, terminations, salary adjustments and/or disciplinary actions; conducts regular performance reviews. Establishes/communicates portfolio management strategy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of proven successful underwriting and documentation experience in commercial lending required.
  • Bachelor's degree is required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong administrative and risk skills required.
  • Previous formalized credit training preferred.
  • Proven consistent and effective negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs required.
  • Demonstrated success structuring complex credits: researching and presenting information verbally and in writing, and creating documentation to support the credit and minimize risk.
  • High level of professionalism.
