Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Metadata Governance Lead to join our team as an individual contributor. This role will be focused on the implementation, curation and governance of our enterprise data catalog, ensuring that metadata management processes are effectively established and maintained across the organization. The Metadata Governance Lead will play a critical role in enhancing data discoverability, usability, and compliance with data governance policies.
The Data Governance Center of Excellence (COE) is responsible for establishing and maintaining high standards for data management across the organization. This includes defining a clear vision and strategy aligned with organizational goals, securing top management commitment, and engaging stakeholders. The COE develops and enforces data governance policies, appoints data stewards, and implements processes to monitor and improve metadata quality. Additionally, it provides training to foster a data-driven culture and continuously refines practices to adapt to changing business needs. By ensuring effective data management and governance frameworks, the COE supports better decision-making and improved business outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Enterprise Data Catalog Implementation: Assist in the implementation of the enterprise data catalog, ensuring it meets the needs of various business units and aligns with organizational goals.
- Product Ownership: Act as the product owner for the data catalog, prioritizing features and enhancements based on business value and user feedback.
- Metadata Management: Develop and maintain metadata management processes, including metadata collection, documentation, and standardization.
- Governance Processes: Establish and enforce governance processes for metadata management, ensuring compliance with data governance policies and regulatory requirements.
- Business Requirements Gathering: Lead the collection and documentation of business requirements to ensure the data catalog aligns with user needs and the organization’s strategic objectives and priorities.
- Data Catalog Metamodel Ownership: Own and manage the metamodel, ensuring it accurately represents the structure and relationships of metadata within the organization.
- Data Catalog Curation: Curate the data catalog to ensure it is comprehensive, up-to-date, and accurately reflects the organization's data assets.
- Collaboration: Work closely with data stewards, data owners, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and comprehensive metadata documentation.
- Data Quality: Implement and monitor data quality metrics related to metadata, ensuring high standards of data accuracy and consistency.
- Training and Support: Provide training and support to users of the data catalog, promoting best practices for metadata management and data governance.
- Continuous Improvement: Regularly assess and refine metadata governance processes to adapt to evolving business needs and technological advancements.
- Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for metadata governance processes and the enterprise data catalog.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 7+ years of related experience working with data, metadata and reference data frameworks, and experience in metadata and/or data quality monitoring
- 3+ years of experience leading colleagues/work efforts and managing toward deadlines
- 3+ years of experience leveraging and maintaining data catalog tools (i.e., Alation, Collibra, Informatica) and delivering frameworks for roles, responsibilities, and sustainable processes for data catalog governance
- 3+ years of experience managing data domains, developing taxonomies, and creating ontologies to enhance metadata organization and usability
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience with data management concepts including data governance, data quality, master data management, data lineage, metadata, and reference data management
- Demonstrated technical competency of organizing and facilitating problem solving in a group environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Business acumen in relating data to business process drivers and performance management
- Collaborative, team-focused, delivery experience
- Experience working independently with minimal direction
- Strategic, intellectually curious thinker with focus on outcomes
- Strong knowledge of business analysis and process engineering
