Metadata Governance Lead

Summary:

The Metadata Governance Lead plays a pivotal role in shaping Huntington Bank’s technology and metadata operational standards, driving consistent governance and enabling high‑quality data delivery across the enterprise. This role oversees metadata management operations and the stewardship of the enterprise data inventory, leveraging deep experience across all phases of the data lifecycle to transform Huntington’s data strategy and meet the evolving needs of data users. A core responsibility of the Metadata Lead is guiding the development, governance, and scalability of the enterprise Data Catalog ensuring that metadata practices applied during focused deployments create a strong foundation for broad user adoption, trusted data discovery, and sustainable data curation at scale.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead continuous improvement of the data catalog to meet the needs of colleagues in alignment with the catalog’s purpose

  • Define, deploy, and maintain metadata requirements for the Alation Data Catalog in support of data onboarding efforts, e.g., Data Product Model, Business Terms

  • Provide guidance on metadata best practices to ensure clarity and consistency

  • Integrate governance practices into communication, training, and maintenance routines

  • Define requirements for metadata validation rules and controls

  • Define requirements for metadata governance reporting

  • Conduct governance compliance reviews

  • Update areas of the metadata and reference data repository where appropriate based on input from technical or business stakeholders

  • Partner with technical and business stakeholders with finding answers to metadata and reference data questions generated through normal business operations.

  • Build strong working relationships throughout the enterprise.

  • Identify and interpret trends and/or patterns within complex data sets.

  • Manage the diagnosis of issues with existing platform configurations and provide recommendations for improvement.

  • Lead the build-out of custom integrations and various data stores.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:     

  • Bachelor’s degree in business Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent relevant work experience

  •  7+ years of related experience working with data, metadata and reference data frameworks, and experience in metadata and/or data quality monitoring 

  •  3+ years of experience leading colleagues/work efforts and managing toward deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Self-motivated to deliver results across multiple tasks while meeting aggressive timelines

  • Experience working independently with minimal direction

  • Demonstrated experience with data management concepts including data governance, metadata management, data cataloging, taxonomy, ontology 

  • Demonstrated competency of organizing and facilitating problem solving in a group environment

  • Strategic, intellectually curious thinker with focus on outcomes

  • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies and fill different roles within the team

  • Strong knowledge of business analysis and process engineering

  • Ability to think conceptually and abstractly

  • Demonstrated perseverance

  • Strong negotiation, influencing, and partnership skills

Compensation Range:

$70,000-$140,000

The compensation range represents the low and high end of the base compensation range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.  Colleagues in this position are also eligible to participate in an applicable incentive compensation plan.  In addition, Huntington provides a variety of benefits to colleagues, including health insurance coverage, wellness program, life and disability insurance, retirement savings plan, paid leave programs, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
