Job Summary:

As a Treasury Management Advisor III – Tribal Government & Indian Country, you will serve as a strategic, trusted advisor to Native American Tribal nations, Tribally-owned enterprises, and related entities. You will lead sophisticated treasury management engagements tailored to the unique financial, cultural, sovereignty, and regulatory environments of tribal communities. This role manages the full sales cycle across cash management, liquidity, payments, card, and merchant services—spanning prospecting, consultative discovery, solution design, proposal development, contract negotiation, and implementation oversight. This role requires demonstrated expertise working within Indian Country, a deep understanding of Tribal governance structures, and the ability to navigate federal regulations, grant funding, sovereignty considerations, and Tribal economic development initiatives

This position requires up to 50% travel to tribal government centers, enterprises, reservations, and regional industry gatherings.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Strategic Business Development

  • Identify, develop, and win opportunities with Tribal governments, Tribal enterprises, casinos, health systems, housing authorities, and economic development corporations.
  • Apply advanced relationship-building and consultative selling techniques tailored to tribal leadership structures, sovereignty considerations, and community priorities.

Portfolio Leadership

  • Serve as the primary treasury advisor for a portfolio of Tribal nations, Tribal enterprises, and intertribal organizations.
  • Maintain ongoing advisory relationships with Tribal Councils, CFOs, Tribal treasurers, enterprise leadership, and sovereign government financial teams.

Segment Expertise

  • Stay informed on:
    • Federal programs impacting Indian Country (Treasury, BIA, IHS, HUD/NAHASDA, ARPA, IIJA, etc.)
    • Grant fund requirements, compliance rules, and single-audit considerations.
    • Sovereign immunity and implications for contracts, dispute resolution, and waivers.
    • Treasury and finance trends specific to Tribal governments and enterprises.
  • Develop thought leadership materials and participate in industry conference panels

Existing Client Management

  • Deepen relationships with existing Tribal clients by delivering elevated, culturally respectful service and by structuring treasury solutions that support:
    • Economic development initiatives
    • Healthcare and education investments
    • Casino and hospitality operations
    • Housing authorities
    • Infrastructure and capital projects

Customized Treasury Solution Design

  • Lead cross-functional teams to design solutions addressing complex Tribal needs across:
    • Payments digitization
    • Liquidity optimization
    • Fraud prevention & compliance
    • Enterprise-level reporting and integration

Product Pricing, Structuring & Negotiation

  • Develop customized pricing structures aligned with Tribal procurement processes.
  • Understand market pricing trends for deposits and treasury services
  • Lead contract negotiations with sensitivity to sovereign immunity clauses and Tribal legal counsel requirements.

Implementation Oversight

  • Ensure seamless integration of treasury platforms across multi-entity Tribal economic structures.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Ensure proper handling of public funds, federal grant dollars, and Tribal enterprise revenue streams in compliance with:
    • Federal regulations
    • Tribal financial policies
    • Reporting standards
    • Banking risk management frameworks

Sales Performance & Strategic Contribution

  • Maintain and report accurate sales pipelines.
  • Provide insight into product design and strategy improvements based on emerging needs of Indian Country.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of treasury management sales experience, including complex government, quasi-government, or tribal government clients over $50MM.
  • 5+ years experience working directly with Native American Tribes, Tribal enterprises, Tribal governments, or Indian Country financial operations, OR equivalent demonstrated experience in a similar sovereign or public-sector environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, public administration, economics, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience supporting Tribal governments, Casinos and Tribal gaming enterprises, Tribal health systems and housing authorities and economic development corporations
  • Established network across Indian Country associations (NCAI, NAFOA, NIGA, AMERIND, etc.)
  • Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) or other advanced treasury certifications.
  • MBA or master’s degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrated track record of high-performance treasury sales.
  • Strong negotiation skills, especially in sovereign contract settings.
  • Proficiency with treasury technology and digital payment systems.

Compensation Range:

$93,000 - $189,000 Annual Salary

The compensation range represents the low and high end of the base compensation range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.  Colleagues in this position are also eligible to participate in an applicable incentive compensation plan.  In addition, Huntington provides a variety of benefits to colleagues, including health insurance coverage, wellness program, life and disability insurance, retirement savings plan, paid leave programs, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
