Summary:
The Retail Small Business Director defines and executes the small business strategy across the retail footprint. The role sets the vision and roadmap for how retail attracts, serves, and deepens small business relationships, while leading a team of Business Lending Specialists who act as in market lending experts and producers. This position blends strategic leadership with field production support to deliver consistent, scalable small business banking experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Small Business Strategy & Roadmap
- Build the Retail small business strategy across lending, deposits, payments, treasury, and client acquisition.
- Develop a multi‑year growth roadmap outlining required capabilities, tools, training, and operating model improvements.
- Partner with Product, Credit, Regional Banking, Marketing, Digital, Operations, and Analytics to align retail and enterprise priorities.
- Create performance dashboards and routines to track results and drive continuous improvement.
2. Leadership of Business Lending Specialists
- Lead and develop a team of Business Lending Specialists who serve as market‑based lending experts and producers.
- Set production targets, quality standards, and accountability routines.
- Oversee territory assignments, coverage models, and prioritization.
- Ensure specialists deliver strong lending advice, credit packaging, pipeline discipline, and partnership with district and branch leaders.
- Foster a performance‑driven culture focused on growth and client outcomes.
3. Field Execution & Market Support
- Develop playbooks, routines, and training for branch teams.
- Partner with Market and District Leaders to strengthen production, build capability, and drive consistent execution.
- Maintain strong field presence through market visits, reviews, and targeted coaching.
- Bring frontline insights back into strategy, credit, and product improvements.
4. Sales, Production & Portfolio Growth
- Drive small business loan production via Business Lending Specialists and branch-based activity.
- Improve pipeline management, lead conversion, cycle times, and credit decision consistency.
- Partner with Credit to align underwriting, manage portfolio quality, and ensure strong risk practices.
- Grow full small business relationships across deposits and OCR natural-fit partners (merchant services, treasury, payments).
5. Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all credit, operational, regulatory, and risk standards.
- Reinforce ethical sales practices and responsible growth.
- Maintain strong documentation and lending quality across activities.
6. Collaboration & Enterprise Influence
- Serve as the coordination point between retail and enterprise partners for all small business matters.
- Represent retail in product strategy, credit policy, digital enhancements, and operational improvements.
- Build strong partnerships across the organization to simplify processes and enhance the banker and client experience
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years in retail banking, small business banking, business lending, or multi‑unit leadership.
- Proven experience leading large teams of customer‑facing producers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing and executing enterprise‑level strategies.
- Deep understanding of business lending, credit processes, and small business P&L drivers.
- Strong analytical and data‑driven decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership presence, and change‑management ability.
- Ability to influence across levels and functions.

Compensation Range:
$170,000-$350,000 Annual SalaryThe compensation range represents the low and high end of the base compensation range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. Colleagues in this position are also eligible to participate in an applicable incentive compensation plan.
