Summary:

Huntington Bank's Commercial Portfolio Manager - Team Leader is responsible for the development and implementation of a team strategy to meet assigned goals, mitigate risk and underwrite transactions that are originated by the middle market banking team and ensures that overall portfolio of relationships and transactions are in alignment with the risk profile of the bank. Our Portfolio Manager - Team Leader is responsible for maintaining acceptable levels of credit quality, consistent with the bank's credit policies, procedures, and guidelines including regular monthly, quarterly and annual portfolio tracking/reporting within established tolerances and maintains a highly credible relationship between portfolio management and Huntington Bank's credit approval authorities while developing robust portfolio analysis processes and data capture processes that manage risk and that generate valuable market insights to management and clients that help the bank and clients win and is accountable for identifying client needs (both credit and non-credit) within the portfolio and referring to middle market banking team for urgent execution to drive revenue growth.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Coaches; counsels; creates and maintains culture based on teamwork, transparency, innovation and desire to win.
  • Creates a positive and productive partnership with the middle market banking team. Mentors new employees and fosters career paths as portfolio management serves as an important entry point for the organization.
  • Actively participates in design and implementation of regional banking strategy with fellow management team members.
  • Quality Assurance: Adheres to bank policies and procedures and complies with legal and regulatory requirements. Accountable for risk management, compliance and audit performance for area(s) of responsibility. Establishes or works with management to develop effective controls and processes to ensure risks are measured, monitored and controlled and compliance requirements are adhered to on an on-going basis. If applicable, ensures staff is properly trained, provided with appropriate resources and motivated to adhere to risk management principles. Maintains current knowledge of risk-related changes that may impact assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Administrative: develops work schedules; responsible for hiring, terminations, salary adjustments and/or disciplinary actions; conducts regular performance reviews. Establishes/communicates portfolio management strategy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of proven successful underwriting and documentation experience in commercial lending required.
  • Bachelor's degree is required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong administrative and risk skills required.
  • Previous formalized credit training preferred.
  • Previous management experience is strongly preferred but not required for the right candidate that demonstrates the skills and aptitude to be successful leading others.
  • Proven consistent and effective negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs required.
  • Demonstrated success structuring complex credits: researching and presenting information verbally and in writing, and creating documentation to support the credit and minimize risk.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience by having provided coaching, skill development, and feedback to team members.
  • High level of professionalism.
